Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) set a tender on Friday to buy an unspecified amount of wheat from global suppliers for shipment from the period of July 10, 2017 to July 20, 2017.
GASC Vice Chairman Ahmed Youssef said the authority was seeking to buy cargoes of soft and/or milling wheat from the United States, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Poland, Argentina, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Paraguay.
Tenders should reach GASC by noon local time (1000 GMT) on Saturday. The results should come out after 3:30 p.m. local time on the same day. Wheat bids should be free-on-board, with a separate freight offer.
At its last wheat tender on May 31, GASC bought 180,000 tonnes of Russian and Romanian wheat for July 1-10 shipment.
Uncertainty over Egypt’s policy on allowable levels of the common grain fungus ergot in shipments may limit the number of grain offers as exporters may fear rejection of cargoes.
An Egyptian court has decided to reinstate a zero tolerance policy on common grain fungus ergot and a formal ruling is expected on June 13, lawyers on the case told Reuters this week. An agriculture ministry spokesman said the inspection system and permitted level of ergot remained unchanged.
