Egypt’s hotel occupancy rate rose by around 80 percent during the first half (H1) of the year, a government official said on Wednesday.
Hotels in Hurghada had the highest occupancy rates, hitting 100 percent last April, followed by Cairo with an occupancy rate ranging between 80 percent and 85 percent.
Inbound tourists’ average overnight stay rate came between 7 and 10 nights with an average price of $100 per night.
European tourists were the largest group occupying rooms in Egyptian hotels, with more than 75 percent of the total occupants.
The tourism industry accounts for almost 15 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and is also a key source of foreign currency.
