Egypt’s extractive and transformational industries index experienced a marginal increase in June 2024, according to the latest data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The extractive and transformational industries index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose by 0.07 per cent to 108.35 in June compared to 108.27 in May.
The ready-made garments industry index saw a substantial increase to 205.26 in June from 178.30 in May, a 15.12 per cent increase.
Similarly, the beverage industry index experienced a notable rise of 12.11 per cent, to 654.08 in June against 583.43 in May. This growth can be attributed to strong consumer demand.
However, other industries faced challenges. The furniture industry index recorded a decline of 17.02 per cent, falling to 135.37 in June from 163.14 in May. This downturn was primarily due to a shortage of raw materials.
Paper industry index also experienced a decrease of 14.32 per cent, dropping to 58.42 in June from 68.18 in May. The unavailability of raw materials was cited as the main factor leading to this decline.
