Egypt’s petroleum ministry, Huawei ink renewable energy MoU

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei Egypt to boost cooperation in solar energy and renewable energy networks, according to a ministry statement on Thursday,

The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPS 2025), aligns with the ministry’s strategy to advance energy transition and expand renewable energy projects within Egypt’s petroleum sector. As part of the partnership, Huawei will launch a pilot project integrating photovoltaic energy, microgrid systems, and battery storage to reduce reliance on diesel generators for powering oil wells.

The project is set to commence in the first half of 2025, coinciding with the initial phase of planned joint projects. Huawei will fully finance the pilot initiative, which aims to demonstrate the feasibility of solar and battery technologies in challenging environments, paving the way for broader adoption.

The collaboration marks a key step toward reducing the petroleum sector’s carbon footprint, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting clean energy solutions.
