Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry, Mitsubishi discuss clean energy investment at EGYPS 2025

Mitsubishi Corporation is exploring new investment opportunities in clean energy technology in collaboration with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The discussions took place during the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPS 2025), where senior officials from Egypt’s petroleum sector met with Mitsubishi representatives to advance cooperation in carbon capture, hydrogen energy, and emissions reduction.

During the talks, Mitsubishi showcased its latest carbon removal technologies for oil fields, including hydrogen-powered and green ammonia-powered gas turbines. The company also presented solutions for expanding hydrogen applications and lowering carbon emissions as part of Egypt’s broader push for sustainability in the energy sector.

Salah Abdel Kerim, chairman of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), emphasised the need for a balanced energy transition, highlighting Egypt’s commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. He also stressed the importance of integrating local and international partners in oil and gas exploration, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance operations.

Meanwhile, Osama El-Samnoudi, vice president of Operations at the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), highlighted opportunities for cooperation in improving natural gas efficiency and developing sustainable solutions to reduce emissions.

He emphasised the importance of integrating company data to track carbon emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and strengthen Egypt’s carbon reduction capabilities in the petroleum and gas sector.

El-Samnoudi noted that partnering with Mitsubishi would support Egypt’s expansion in hydrogen projects and carbon capture and storage, aligning with global best practices to reduce reliance on conventional fuels and promote environmental sustainability.
