Egypt’s PM: Alternatives to old rent law to be ready before deadline

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced that the government is working to reassure tenants impacted by the old rent law by offering housing alternatives suited to various income levels, according to a Cabinet Statement.

The remarks came during a meeting held to review the proposed mechanisms for implementing the provisions of the new rental regulations.

Madbouly directed the immediate launch of a housing initiative dedicated to eligible tenants, with units expected to be ready even before the seven-year transition period elapses.

During the meeting, Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny revealed that the Social Housing Fund will launch a unified electronic platform within a month. The platform will receive lease applications over a three-month period, allowing authorities to assess the volume of demand and prepare a detailed list of applicants and the number of residential units required.

El-Sherbiny added that all submitted documents will be reviewed for eligibility, including field and digital checks by relevant bodies to determine priority cases. He also presented a plan for using available land plots for social housing projects, alongside a list of proposed residential and non-residential units to be offered under the scheme.
