Egypt’s PM pledges to resolve medicine shortages soon
Egypt’s Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly has reassured citizens that the current drug shortages will resolve in the coming weeks, with all necessary quantities of various medications becoming available soon.
The PM stated that the country has established 15 new factories over the past three years, bringing the total number of local factories to 172. Madbouly emphasised that 91 per cent of medicines are locally-produced, pledging to localise more drugs.
Madbouly further revealed that the pharmaceutical sector exported $1 billion worth of medicines last fiscal year. He set ambitious targets to increase exports to $1.5 billion this year and $3 billion by 2030. Moreover, the PM Madbouly also praised Egypt’s strong pharmaceutical infrastructure, which employs tens of thousands and exports to over 60 countries, including many in Europe. He highlighted the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to high production quality standards and its independence in line with global practices.
