Egypt’s records 698 new coronavirus cases on Saturday
Egypt recorded 698 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed infections nationwide to 87,172 cases, according to a health ministry statement on Saturday.
This is the tenth consecutive day for the health ministry to register coronavirus infections less than the 1,000 cases.
Despite the reopening of the country late last month, the daily figure has stabilised for more than a week now and the country’s record of daily coronavirus cases – 1,774 infections recorded on 19 June – has been kept unbroken to date.
The ministry said in the statement that it also reported 63 new deaths over the past 24 hours, taking the total fatalities to 4,251.
The first coronavirus fatality announced in Egypt was on 8 March, with the highest single-day death toll to date recorded on 15 May, with 97 fatalities.
The statement added that 566 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus on Saturday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 27,868.
