Egypt’s SCZone refuels world’s first methanol-powered vessel

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has refueled the world’s first methanol-powered container ship at East Port Said Port, according to a statement on Friday.

The refueling is the first operation of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The process took approximately six hours to be completed.

The vessel was owned by Maersk and has been supplied with 500 tons of green methanol by the barge Lara S.
