Egypt’s UPA aims ensure medicine availability

Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shimy emphasised the importance of enhancing cooperation between public pharmaceutical firms and the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA) to ensure the availability of medicines and medical supplies, as per a Cabinet statement.

He highlighted the ministry’s efforts to develop production lines in its affiliated pharmaceutical companies, introduce new products, and provide the market with high-quality medicines at reasonable prices.

Shimy stressed the ministry’s commitment to upgrading its pharmaceutical companies in line with international Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards, according to the statement.

He noted that ongoing projects include modernising existing production lines, adding new ones, and introducing advanced pharmaceutical products to meet local market demands and boost exports.

Hisham Stait, UPA’s chairman, confirmed readiness to support national pharmaceutical companies and enhance cooperation with the ministry to improve medicine availability in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
