The China-built Ethiopia-Djibouti railway has been successful, generating 2.84 billion Ethiopian birrs ($50 million) in revenue in the first nine months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year, despite regional challenges, Xinhua reported on Wednesday.
Aminu Juhar, chief corporate strategy officer at the Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company (EDR), noted that this represents an increase of approximately $1.12 million compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, the railway saw a 15 per cent increase in passenger traffic, transporting 148,664 passengers during the same nine-month period compared to the previous fiscal year, as per the statement.
The Ethiopia-Djibouti standard gauge railway, also known as the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway, offers a crucial transport link for landlocked Ethiopia.
