EU-Kenya economic partnership agreement finalised

The European Council has greenlit the EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), promising trade growth and sustainable development, according the EU Council statement on Thursday.

The statement said that the agreement grants Kenya duty-free, quota-free access to the EU market, reciprocally opening Kenya’s market to EU imports. Moreover, the deal emphasises sustainability, making it the EU’s most ambitious pact with a developing nation.

Notably, Kenya’s role as a vital trading partner is underscored by €3.3 billion in 2022 trade. After internal procedures, the agreement will enter into force, signaling a new era of co-operation between the EU and Kenya.
