European CEOs see gloomy future of EU-China relations
A majority of Europe’s chief executives anticipate worsening relations between Europe and China over the next three years, according to a survey by the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) released on Wednesday.
The survey found that 54 per cent of CEOs believe EU-China relations will deteriorate, with only 7 per cent expecting improvement.
The EU’s de-risking strategy and China’s close ties with Moscow were cited as the main friction points. While China-based CEOs of Western multinationals were more optimistic, the survey highlighted concerns over de-risking and the Beijing-Moscow partnership as top risks.
Despite this, European CEOs showed increased optimism, especially regarding prospects outside Europe.
The CEOs also expressed hope that new EU leadership after the June elections would positively impact Europe’s economy by simplifying regulations and completing the single market.
