The value of the Egyptian exports of food industries climbed 3% in the first quarter of 2013, recording EGP 4.4 billion in return for EGP 4.2 billion at the same time of 2012.
According to sources in the Foreign Trade sector to “Amwal Al Ghad”, the sectors’ exports witnessed variety during that period, particularly the products of oil and fragrant resins, which their exports recorded EGP 341 million. Meanwhile, the exports of sugar attained EGP 296 million, followed by the juice, fishes and dairy products.
On his part, Safwan Sabet, owner of Juhayna Food Company, told “Amwal Al Ghad” that the Egyptian production of food is likely to increase in the coming period, leading to raising the exports. This double increase will let the producers to orient the production to the domestic market. Sabet has regarded a future food crisis in Egypt as unlikely because Egypt has some factors of the food security.
