Foreign investments in Egypt’s T-bills surge to EGP 1.870t by Oct ’24 – CBE

Foreign investment in Egyptian government’s treasury bills (T-bills) surged to 1.870 trillion Egyptian pounds in October 2024, marking a notable increase from 1.746 trillion pounds in September 2024, a recent central bank showed.

The report also highlighted a rise in total treasury bills outstanding balances, which reached 3.917 trillion pounds by the end of October, up from 3.710 trillion pounds in September.

Private sector banks saw their investments in the T-bills grow to 604.217 billion pounds by the end of October, compared to 593.409 billion pounds the previous month. Public sector bank investments in the T-bills also increased to 250.993 billion pounds, up from 232.651 billion pounds in September.

Meanwhile, investments by foreign bank branches in the T-bills stood at 52.384 billion pounds, while specialised banks accounted for 99.234 billion pounds by the end of October.
