The German embassy in Cairo will close its visa issuing department on Thursday to hold a workshop and not for security concerns that have driven a number of western embassies to close in recent days, the embassy’s media advisor told Ahram Online.
Media advisor Magdy El-Sayed said the embassy will close the visa issuing department on Thursday to hold a workshop for the department’s employees, stressing that the urgent note on the embassy’s website was published before other embassies had announced a halt in their activities on Sunday and after.
A number of diplomatic missions in Cairo have either closed their doors or updated their travel advice to citizens over the last few days, citing “security reasons.”
The British and Canadian embassies closed without providing a date for reopening. The Australian embassy in Cairo updated its travel advice, warning of reports indicating that terrorists may be planning attacks against embassies in the capital.
