A senior Hamas official says a delegation from the Islamic militant group is heading to Cairo to discuss the group’s strained relationship with the Egyptian government.
The official spoke anonymously as he is not authorized to brief the media on this issue.
Relations between Hamas and Egypt have soured since the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013; Hamas and Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood were close allies.
Egyptian officials have more than once linked Hamas to terror acts in Egypt, which spiked following the toppling of Morsi.
Last week, Cairo accused Hamas of playing a major role in the 2015 assassination of Egypt’s chief prosecutor.
