Helwan Fertilizers partners with Enppi to launch Egypt’s 1st melamine plant

Helwan Fertilizers Company selected Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (Enppi) to consult on the construction of Egypt’s first melamine production plant. The plant, which will have an annual capacity of 60,000 tons, will be the first of its kind in Africa and the second in the Middle East, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Wednesday.

Under a turnkey contract, Enppi will be responsible for reviewing and preparing the tender specifications for the project, including the licensor documents and bidding requirements for specialised contractors. It will also oversee the project’s implementation.

The new plant is expected to meet the increasing domestic demand for melamine and boost Egypt’s exports of this important chemical.

Melamine is a crucial material used in the production of glue, adhesives, and laminated wood products, among other applications, positioning this project as a pivotal development in Egypt’s industrial landscape.
