Hepatitis virus C prevalence has decreased by 0.38 percent in Egypt during the year 2022, state news agency MENA quoted Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar as saying on Saturday.
The rates decreased thanks to Egypt’s 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative that provided virus C free diagnostic tests and treatment for Egyptians all over the country. Adel Ghaffar made his remarks to the UN Group of Friends to Eliminate Hepatitis coalition during a meeting held in New York city on the sidelines of UN general assembly 78th session, taking place during from 19 to 26 September.
In 2008, HCV prevalence in Egypt was 14.7 percent, Egyptians aged 15-59 years old, 10 percent of them were virus c patients estimating around 6 million. In 2022 the rates dropped successfully lower than global rates, the Egyptian minister added.
