Housing Minister to Demolish Irregular Buildings in Alexandria

Dr. Tarek Wafiq, Minister of Housing and Urban Communities, has asked officials at the Ministry to cooperate with the Governor of Alexandria in preparing an agenda including the tasks and schedules set for handling the problem of the dilapidated buildings that are about to collapse.

He also called upon the housing directorate to inform the security bodies about any coming building irregularity in a maximum period of two days, given that any delay in reporting would aggravate the problem. He also demanded officials of different districts and security bodies to take quick procedures when dealing with such infringements, in addition to hanging a sign on irregular buildings.

Dr. Tarek Wafiq stressed on the need to create a detailed database, comprising the distribution and cases of building irregularities, in addition to setting a plan for the buildings that must be handled first based on their degree of danger.

The Minister also declared that they are considering assigning Arab Contractors to demolishing the buildings that are subject imminent collapse. He confirmed that all ministries concerned have been informed to cut off services for these buildings as initial procedures for addressing the problem.
