Egypt’s construction and building materials sectors are expected to create between 4 million and 5 million job opportunities in the medium term, according to an official in the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
These two sectors are currently providing around 2.7 million job opportunities, representing 12 percent of Egypt’s workforce, Amal Mowafy, Chief Technical Advisor, International Labour Office at ILO, further said at Builders of Egypt Forum on Wednesday.
In industrial countries, these two sectors represent between 5 and 10 percent of the workforce, Mowafy added.
Egypt has allocated $144 billion for national projects in both public and private sectors, including $45 billion for the new administrative capital city, she stated.
The construction and building materials sectors contribute to the provision of between 10 and 14 direct job opportunities for each $1 million worth of investment, the ILO official stated.
