IMF reaffirms support to Bangladesh amid political upheaval

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed its unwavering support for Bangladesh and its citizens following the recent ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The IMF, which approved a $4.7 billion loan programme for Bangladesh in January 2023, expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives and injuries but affirmed its commitment to supporting efforts for economic stability and inclusive growth.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh awaited the formation of an interim government, a day after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country in the wake of student-led protests that resulted in hundreds of deaths.
