Indonesia’s inflation rate reached 2.12 per cent year-on-year in August 2024, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded at 106.06, according to the latest data published by BPS-Statistics Indonesia on Monday.
On a monthly basis, Indonesia recorded a slight deflation rate of 0.03 per cent in August 2024. The year-to-date inflation rate was 0.87 per cent for the same period, according to the report.
The highest inflation by province was reported in Papua Pegunungan Province at 5.05 per cent, with a CPI of 110.78, while the lowest inflation was in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province at 1.02 per cent, with a CPI of 103.78.
Inflation was mainly fueled by price increases across various spending categories. Food, beverages, and tobacco prices rose by 3.39 per cent, while personal care and other services saw a 6.04 per cent increase.
The clothing and footwear prices rose by 1.19 per cent, housing, and the water, electricity, and household fuel group by 0.57 per cent. The only sector that saw deflation was the information, communication, and financial services group, which decreased by 0.16 per cent.
