IsDB funds Morocco’s water initiative

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has provided $84.8 million in financing to the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) in Morocco to bolster the government’s initiatives to improve access to water resources. This funding underscores the IsDB’s commitment to supporting its member countries in addressing critical infrastructure needs.

The IsDB emphasised Morocco’s ongoing efforts to enhance water resource accessibility, noting that the partnership between the IsDB and the Moroccan government has already led to significant advancements. These include the construction of two water treatment plants and the installation of 1,600 kilometers of distribution pipelines. The project is expected to provide clean and reliable water to 686,000 people across eight provinces by 2030.

Moreover, this initiative is part of the IsDB’s broader strategy to support the development goals of its member countries, particularly in improving essential services and infrastructure.
