Jordan finishes work on 1st gas-run industrial city

Jordan has completed a one-year project to construct its first gas-run industry city, according to a Jordanian official on Wednesday.

Al-Quwayrah Industrial City is located in Aqaba, South of Jordan to commission officially within a few months, said Mamoun Al-Qasoos, CEO of the Aqaba International Industrial City.

Al-Qasoos said that the new industrial zone spans an area of around three square kilometres, and is now fully complete with a number of companies already setting up facilities.

“Al-Quwayrah Industrial City will be commissioned within the next few months…it is Jordan’s first industrial zone to be supplied by gas for industrial purposes,” he said.

Al-Qasoos said that a steady increase in energy costs is a key challenge facing industries in Aqaba, Jordan’s only coastal city. He added that there is now a need to rely more on gas and to boost energy efficiency.
