Egyptian minister of education El-Hilali El-Sherbini issued a decree on Thursday temporarily suspending the licensing of international schools in Egypt.
According to the decree, all requests for new licenses to found new international schools or to open sections based on international education system in private schools in Egypt are suspended temporarily.
The decision suspends licensing until the ministry can create new regulations for international schools in the country.
Several news reports indicate that the decision follows complaints and legal violations committed by international schools in Egypt.
In May, four international schools were seized by the ministry of education for violating ministry decisions and collecting tuition fees in US dollars instead of Egyptian pounds.
