Mongolia’s coal exports surged 31.3 per cent year-on-year, reaching 53.7 million tons in the first eight months of 2024, according to recent data released by the National Statistics Office.
Coal remains a cornerstone of Mongolia’s export sector, accounting for 57.7 per cent of the nation’s total exports during this period. This highlights the crucial role of coal in driving the Mongolian economy.
Initially, the country set a target of exporting 60 million tons of coal in 2024. However, given the strong performance of the coal sector, this forecast was revised upwards to 75 million tons in August.
In 2023, Mongolia achieved a historic milestone by exporting 66.7 million tons of coal, setting a benchmark for the current year’s exports.
