Muscat’s local contracting firm wins Expressway contract

Local Omani construction firm Galfar Engineering & Contracting has been selected by the Tender Board to undertake the Phase One construction of the Batinah Expressway project at a cost of RO 138.929 million.

Galfar CEO Dr Hans Erlings said in a disclosure notification to the Capital Market Authority (CMA) that the bid offer quoted by the company in its bid for the contract matched the figure announced by the Tender Board in the award of the contract.

Phase 1 covers an initial 45-kilometre distance that starts where the Muscat Expressway ends in the Wilayat of Barka. Also as part of this package, Barka roundabout will be replaced by an interchange which will be linked to the expressway via a 7-kilometre-long interconnecting blacktop.

Three other phases of the 265-kilometre-long expressway project, which terminates at Khatmat Malaha in Wilayat Shinas, are currently out to tender. It will be the first four-lane carriageway (eight lanes in all) in the Sultanate.
