The number of mobile internet users in Egypt achieved a year-on year 25.1 percent increase to reach 24.1 million in June 2015, state’s statistics agency CAPMAS said in a report on Wednesday.
By the end of June 2014, the number recorded 19.3 million users.
Statistics also showed that the number of USB modem internet users reached 4.1 million in June 2015 compared to 3.8 million for the same month in 2014, marking an increase rate of 7.3 percent.
The number of ADSL internet users shrank 18.2 percent to reach 2.9 million in June 2015 compared to 3.5 million for the same month in 2014.
Meanwhile, the number of mobile phone lines reached 95.1 million lines in June 2015 compared to 103.2 million lines for the same month in 2014, a decrease rate of 7.9%, due to cancellation of several mobile lines that do not have data users.
The report also mentioned that the PABX load reached 17.2 million lines in 2014/2015, compared to 15.2 million lines in 2013/2014, an increase rate of 13.2 percent.
The number of active lines reached 6.3 million in 2014/2015 compared to 8.9 million in 2013/2014, a decrease rate of 28.8 percent, due to increase of mobile phones.
The number of phone lines in the government sector reached 138.0 thousand in 2014/2015 compared to 166.2 thousand in 2013/2014, a decrease rate of 17.0 percent, while the number of phone lines in private sector reached 621.1 thousand in 2014/2015, compared to 776.6 thousand in 2013/2014, a decrease rate of 20.0 percent.
The number of home phone lines reached 5.6 million in 2014/2015 compared to 8.0 million in 2013/2014, a decrease rate of 30.0 percent.
The average number of household telephone line / thousand family of population reached 266 in 2014/2015 compared to 390 in 2013/2014, a decrease rate of 31.8 percent.
The CAPMAS further revealed that the number of outgoing external wireless trunk calls reached 118.7 million in 2014/2015 compared to 90.6 million in 2013/2014, an increase rate of 31.1 percent.
The total duration of outgoing external wireless trunk calls reached 5.3 million hours in 2014/2015 compared to 3.7 million hours in 2013/2014, an increase rate of 42.6 percent.
The number of incoming external wireless calls reached 1.2 billion in 2014/2015 compared to 1.1 billion in 2013/2014, an increase rate of 6.0 percent.
The report referred to the total duration of incoming external wireless trunk calls that reached 77.3 million hours in 2014/2015 compared to 98.5 million hours in 2013/2014, a decrease rate of 21.5 percent.
