Prime Minister Hesham Kandil urged Ethiopia on Friday to not cut Egypt’s share of the Nile water.
Kandil’s statement came during his meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Japan’s Yokohama, the Middle East News Agency reported.
Kandil discussed the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam issue with Ethiopia’s prime minister, cabinet spokesman Alaa al-Hadidi said.
Egypt’s presidency had emphasized that the country’s water security is a critical issue and will not be compromised.
A tripartite committee composed of representatives from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia has reached some proposals to settle disputes and correct errors in the dam’s design, sources said.
These proposals will be presented to the countries concerned on Saturday, the sources added.
