President Sisi prioritises telecom expansion, AI strategy for economic growth

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed intensified efforts to improve telecommunications coverage and internet quality nationwide, emphasising the importance of delivering efficient, high-quality services to citizens.

The president underscored the priority of expanding telecommunications networks across Egypt while ensuring their excellence. He also encouraged greater investment from both domestic and international stakeholders in the communications and IT sectors.

President El-Sisi highlighted the need to elevate Egypt’s global rankings in telecommunications, aiming to position the country as a leading regional hub for digital services, telecommunications, and IT activities.

During a high-level meeting with government officials on Sunday, he reviewed progress on the second edition of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, set to be launched soon. This updated strategy seeks to harness AI technologies to tackle societal challenges across various sectors and to provide cutting-edge computational infrastructure to support government entities, private companies, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

These efforts are aligned with Egypt’s broader economic development goals.

The meeting also addressed ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and other government institutions. Key topics included advancements in digital transformation initiatives, plans to enhance national postal services, and strategies to localise mobile phone manufacturing to strengthen domestic industry and promote innovation.
