Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Al-Kaabi said that gas will remain a safe energy source until 2050, his remarks came during the 12th LNG Producer-Consumer Conference, in Tokyo,.
The conference was attended by officials from various countries including the U.S., South Korea and the European Union. However, he said that strategists must take a realistic approach and put into consideration the need for low-carbon energy.
The minister also criticised advocates of rapid transfer toward low carbon energy, advising for “fair and effective transfer balancing between mankind prosperity and environment protection.
“Qatar supplies the world the cleanest hydrocarbon energy,” he added. According to Al-Kaabi by 2029, Doha will be the source of 40 percent of the liquid natural gas to the global markets.
In 2017, Qatar was estimated to hold 858 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, to be the 3rd in the world. The country also accounts for around 12 percent of the world’s total natural gas reserves.
