The International Red Cross (ICRC) President travelled to Qatar on Monday to meet with the leader of Hamas to “advance humanitarian issues” related to the ongoing war in Palestine, the Geneva-based body said in a statement.
According to the ICRC – a neutral intermediary- President Mirjana Spoljaric met with Ismail Haniyeh. She also met with the Qatari authorities who served as mediators.
The ICRC said that the meeting was part of discussions with all parties involved in the ongoing war in Palestine to improve respect for the so-called international humanitarian law after it failed terribly to command Israel to a ceasefire.
Finally, the meeting was not part of negotiations aimed at releasing more than 200 hostages seized by Hamas.
