Saudi Arabia’s General Food Security Authority (GFSA) has secured 307,000 tons of wheat through its fourth tender of 2024, further reinforcing the kingdom’s strategic wheat reserves.
The wheat will be imported from regions including the European Union (EU), North and South America, Australia, and the Black Sea, ensuring continued supply for domestic milling companies.
GFSA Governor Ahmad Al-Fares announced on Monday that the shipment is scheduled to arrive between December 2024 and January 2025. The wheat will be delivered by five vessels, with two ships carrying 127,000 tons bound for Jeddah Islamic Port, two more delivering 125,000 tons to Yanbu Commercial Port, and a final vessel with 55,000 tons destined for Jazan Port.
Fifteen international grain trading companies competed in the tender, with three companies winning contracts based on competitive pricing and adherence to GFSA’s quality standards.
This import is a crucial step in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to maintain stable wheat reserves and secure food security across the country.
