SCZONE could be model for Africa investment – chairman at TICAD 9
The ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9)
Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) could serve as a model for African countries seeking to integrate supply chains, attract foreign capital and advance sustainable development, its chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dein said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a high-level panel hosted by the OECD and African Union on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), Gamal El-Dein pointed to Egypt’s decade-long investment in power, water, transport and digital infrastructure to support the zone.
He said ongoing upgrades at SCZONE’s six ports on the Red Sea and Mediterranean—including basin deepening, multi-purpose berths and expanded storage—are strengthening its position as a global logistics hub.
The panel also discussed themes from the OECD’s forthcoming Africa’s Development Dynamics 2025 report, which prioritises infrastructure financing and human capital as drivers of growth.
