The portfolios of securities held by banks in Egypt (excluding the Central Bank of Egypt) rose by EGP 63.8 billion (13.5%) during 11 months, registering EGP 538 billion at the end of last May, compared to EGP 474.1 billion at the end June 2011.
Local-currency securities held by banks registered EGP 479.9 billion (89.2%) at the end of last May. Foreign-currency securities held by banks registered EGP 5s8 billion at the end of last May, according to the Central Bank of Egypt’s latest data.
