South Africa to start phased reopening of economy as of May 1
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government would start a partial reopening of the economy on May 1, while easing travel restrictions and allowing some industries to operate under a five-level risk system.
The National Coronavirus Command Council decided restrictions will be lowered from level 5 to level 4 starting from next Friday, Ramaphosa added.
International borders will remain closed, the South African president said, adding that travel would be only allowed for essential services.
