Strong Egypt Party condemns torching of Al-Jazeera bureau in Tahrir

Strong Egypt Party on Wednesday condemned the torching of Al-Jazeera television office in Tahrir, downtown Cairo.

The office of the Qatar-based satellite network was set on fire by unknown assailants as protests in Mohamed Mahmoud street, which leads to the iconic Tahrir square, gathered momentum.

“We call on protesters to maintain the peaceful nature of their demonstrations. They should not attack any public or private property nor harass the media, which is doing its job,” the party, which was founded by former presidential candidate Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh, said in a statement.

Earlier on Wednesday, Al Jazeera said on its twitter account that its office was attacked by Molotov cocktails.

Protesters commemorating last year’s clashes in Mohamed Mahmoud have engaged in fresh confrontations with police forces that left scores injured. The clashes, which started on Monday, are still ongoing.
