Switzerland’s consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.3 per cent in September 2024 compared with August 2024, reaching 107.2 points, according to latest data released by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Thursday.
On an annual basis, inflation remained positive at 0.8 per cent.
The monthly decrease was attributed to lower costs for international package holidays, supplementary accommodation, and air transport, along with declines in petrol, heating oil, and diesel prices. In contrast, clothing and footwear prices rose, as did prices for berries and fruiting vegetables.
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) also reported a 0.3 per cent drop from the previous month, standing at 107.50 points, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 0.9 per cent. The HICP allows for inflation comparisons between Switzerland and other EU countries, with results published by Eurostat on a predefined schedule.
