Egypt’s Prosecutor General, Talaat Abdullah, has approved lifting travel ban and watch list for 10 figures of the former regime, after they repaid the value of gifts they were said to have received from the country’s leading state-run newspaper.
The 10 figures are Dr Ahmed Fathy Sorour-former Chairman of Egypt’s PA, Hatem El Gabaly- former Minister of Health, Mofeed Shehab- former Minister of the State for the Parliamentarian and Legal Affairs, Sami Mahran- former People’s Assembly Secretary General, Yousri El Sheikh- former Manager of Fathy Sorour, Mohamed Sami Saad, Secretary to Dr Ahmed Nazif, Writer Abdallah Kamal, and Abou Wafa Hussein Rashwan, former Secretary to toppled Mubarak, in addition to Ali Ahmed Hashim, Board Chairman of Dar Al Tahrir, and Abou Taleb Mahmoud Abou Taleb.
A judicial source asserted this travel ban lift is temporary till finishing the investigations over Al Ahram gifts case.
The offer to settle the case came shortly after a court overturned Mubarak’s life sentence in connection with failing to stop the death of protesters during the uprising that ousted him in 2011. He was ordered retried, though no date has yet been set.
