Trump praises Egypt’s ‘very little crime,’ hails Sisi ahead of Gaza peace summit

US President Donald Trump arrived in Egypt on Monday ahead of Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace and used the occasion to publicly praise the country’s low crime rate and commend President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as a “very powerful leader.”

Speaking at a meeting with the Egyptian president, Trump drew a stark contrast between Egypt and the United States. “They don’t play games,” he said. “Like we do in the United States, with governors that have no idea what they’re doing. Contrarily, in Egypt, the US president said, is almost nonexistent. “I ask about crime, they almost don’t know what I’m even talking about!”

Trump went on to describe Sisi as a friend who has played a critical role in uniting the country and maintaining security. “It’s a great tribute to this man. He’s done a fantastic job in bringing this country together. And the United States is with him all the way,” he said.

The comments highlighted the unusually personal rapport between Trump and Sisi, with the US president repeatedly praising the Egyptian leader’s role in keeping crime low and stabilising the nation. “He played a very important role. I appreciate it very much,” Trump added.

The remarks came as world leaders are gathering in Sharm El-Sheikh for a summit aimed at advancing peace in Gaza, an ongoing flashpoint in the region.
