Tunisia calls for enhancing local tourism – minister

Tunisia’s Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mohamed Moez Belhassine, called on the sector’s professionals to motivate tourists to spend their holidays in local tourist units.

Local tourism is crucial to the country because it is a major pillar in Tunisia, said Belhassine during an inspection visit to hotel units on Saturday evening in the tourist areas of Nabeul-Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet in the governorate of Nabeul.

Belhassine investigated the quality of services offered to customers such as accommodation, catering, cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.

The tourist area of Yasmine Hammamet recorded an increase in the number of visitors by 5.17 percent until the beginning of June.

The number of nights spent went up by 49 percent, said Local Commissioner of Tourism in Yasmine Hammamet Khaled Klouiaa.
