UK trade envoy visits Cairo to discuss investment opportunities
UK trade envoy to Egypt Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has embarked on a visit to Cairo leading a delegation of representatives of major British healthcare companies.
The two-day visit is the 10th in less than three years, said a statement released on Sunday by the British embassy in Cairo, adding that it is meant to promote bilateral ties and explore investment opportunities in Egypt.
During his visit, Donaldson will meet Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, Minister of Military Production Mohamed El-Assar and Minister of Environment Yasmin Salah Eddin, the embassy added.
In addition, the visit seeks to build upon the successful visit of British Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox to Cairo in May, laying the foundation stone for further cooperation.
For his part, British Ambassador in Cairo Sir Geoffrey Adams stressed his country’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s agenda for economic reform by establishing new partnerships in several fields including education, healthcare, finance and privately-owned sector.
Earlier in January, Egypt and Britain signed a memorandum of understanding to boost healthcare cooperation. The deal seeks to facilitate knowledge sharing and provide necessary training for Egyptian cadres.
Over 30 Egyptian doctors have received medical training in the UK ever since the deal was signed.
