Uruguay, Egypt look at making green hydrogen together
Uruguay is looking to reach a framework agreement with Egypt to work together on green hydrogen production, Egyptian Minister of Industry and Trade Nevine Gamea said on Monday.
“The ministry has received two official letters from Uruguay’s Minister for Livestock, Agriculture Fernando Mattos to start work on a framework agreement in fields of investment promotion and protection, scientific research, student exchange programmes, and green hydrogen and fertiliser production.” Minister Gamea said in a ministry statement.
She added that the second letter is related to Uruguay’s requesting a list of Egyptian firms exporting fertilisers, notably the phosphate and nitrogen fertilisers.
The Egyptian minister made these remarks following her meeting with Ardiana Lissidini, Uruguayan ambassador to Cairo.
In February, Minister Fernando Mattos visited Egypt and met Minister Gamea in Cairo, where they discussed expanding joint cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, agriculture, and investment.
Green hydrogen is a zero-carbon fuel made by electrolysis through using renewable power from wind and solar to split water into hydrogen and oxygen without burning fossils.
Egypt has been studying using green hydrogen as a cleaner energy source to integrate into its energy mix programme by 2035.
