US prepares auto industry defence against China
Top White House economic adviser Lael Brainard is set to outline the Biden administration’s strategy to protect the US auto industry from what it views as unfair trade practices by China.
In a speech at the Detroit Economic Club, Brainard will emphasise the need to prevent a repeat of the negative impact seen during the early 2000s due to China’s overcapacity and export surge.
Brainard will highlight the administration’s commitment to implementing safeguards to shield the US auto sector from a potential influx of low-priced Chinese vehicles that could undermine its competitiveness internationally.
