U.S. stock market futures fell in early trading on Monday after a weekend which saw no move towards reconciliation between U.S. politicians on the debt ceiling.
Treasury Secretary Jack warned in Sunday interviews over the weekend that Congress is “playing with fire if they don’t extend the debt limit.” Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner said the Republican party was not about to completely surrender and tied the fight more to the fast-approaching deadline to avoid debt default. Futures for the Dow industrials fell 83 points, or 0.6%, to 14,915, while those for the S&P 500 index fell 11.7 points, or 0.7%, to 1,673.10. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 fell 16 points, or 0.5%, to 3,218.50.
