The World Bank approved a $80 million in financing to support Cambodia’s efforts to enhance the quality of higher education and research, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
This funding is provided through the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s concessional lending arm for low-income countries.
The six-year project will focus on nine public institutions of higher education, aiming to produce well-qualified graduates and valuable research outcomes that contribute to Cambodia’s economic growth.
Approximately 32,000 students, including 13,000 women, will benefit from the project’s activities, which encompass curriculum updates, lecturer training, and the digitisation of education delivery.
The project prioritises improving the quality of learning for female students and students with disabilities, and it also seeks to support female faculty members. Additionally, it adopts climate-resilient infrastructure design standards and prioritizes research projects related to climate change.
