New cars in Egypt will run on natural gas, Sisi says

Egypt President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said a new policy will require citizens to outfit any new car they purchase with a dual-fuel natgas / gasoline systems as a condition of licensing, stressing the move will help reduce middle-income families’ fuel bills by half.

El-Sisi, speaking Sunday during the inauguration of a national project, said converting 1 million vehicles in Egypt to natural gas will cost a total of about 8 billion pounds ($500 million).

People with cars that are over 20 years’ old will be able to apply for a low-interest car loan through the MSME Development Agency to obtain a new, dual-fuel car, turning in their existing vehicle as a deposit.
