Egypt’s Sisi urges quick implementation of smart transportation system

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi  calls on officials to start the establishment of a smart transportation system. The cost of the first phase of the project is estimated at  2 billion Egyptian pounds.

The mart transportation system is aiming at enhancing security and safety of citizens in transportation networks nationwide.

Smart transportation system is an advanced application that seeks to include innovative services relating to various modes of transportation and traffic management. It enables users to be make safer, more organized, and smarter use of transportation networks.

During the meeting, Sisi ordered immediate application of the system, in accordance with highest international standards, to apply modern technology on roads and axes linking cities and logistic areas in commercial ports on both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, a Presidential statement read

The statement referred to the system’s positive impact on opening new economic horizons and forming comprehensive infrastructure

The president urged expansion on the first phase of the new system that includes 20 main axes and training relevant authorities’ cadres to ensure operation efficiency and optimal use of the system]

The initial construction of the new system will begin on 20 roads, six of which are urgent, with a total length covering 1,070 km.

This came in a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfiq and Transportation Minister Kamel el Wazir

The new system will be facilitating movement of citizens and goods through the application of modern technology, in order to provide passengers with updated information on road conditions and traffic, in order to help reduce congestion and save time, effort and energy.
