Egypt sets sights on becoming World’s most diverse tourist destination

Egypt has set ambitious goals to establish itself as the world’s most diverse tourist destination, aligning with its comprehensive tourism promotion strategy. A report released by the Cabinet’s Media Centre on Monday highlights the country’s remarkable progress in the tourism sector and its strategies to enhance global competitiveness.

Tourism Growth and International Recognition

  • Surging Revenues: Tourism revenue more than doubled, reaching $15.3 billion in 2024, compared to $7.2 billion in 2014.
  • Rising Tourist Arrivals: The number of visitors grew by 59.6 per cent, hitting 15.8 million in 2024, up from 9.9 million in 2014, with a target of 30 million tourists by 2032.
  • Global Ranking Improvement: Egypt climbed 22 places in the Travel and Tourism Development Index, ranking 61st in 2024, up from 83rd in 2015.
  • Luxor in the Spotlight: Travel + Leisure Magazine named Luxor one of the top 50 destinations for 2025.

Boosting Tourism Investment

  • EGP 50 Billion Tourism Initiative: Launched by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) in October 2024, in collaboration with the Ministries of Finance and Tourism and Antiquities.
  • Expanding Investment Opportunities: Egypt aims to introduce 156 new tourism investment projects by January 2025.
